Material Introduction-PEEK

PEEK has been used as an implant material in human medicine (finger prostheses, intervertebral discs, hip prostheses) for over 35 years. 2. Fixed Denture Material

The average failure load of the implanted three-unit fixed bridge made of PEEK material is (1430+262) N, which can withstand the occlusal force of the molar area. In addition, compared with traditional ceramic materials, PEEK is lighter in weight and closer to the mechanical properties of dentin and enamel. As a dental substitute material, it can better restore the mechanical properties of dental tissue.

Application of PEEK in Dental Implant

Titanium and zirconium are the main materials currently used for abutments. Although titanium abutments and zirconium abutments have high elastic modulus, they will directly transfer the maximum chewing force to the implant and jaw, which is not conducive to osseointegration. PEEK dental material is in white color and has a low elastic modulus, which can buffer the chewing force to a certain extent and make up for the lack of titanium and zirconium abutments.

PEEK is light in weight and is more advantageous when repairing dentition defects or missing dentitions with a large number of missing teeth. Replacing metal crowns and all-ceramic crowns with PEEK crowns with smaller elastic modulus will play a certain buffering role.

The good hyposensitivity of PEEK bridges can well prevent allergic reactions in patients.
