Bloomden PEEK in Dental Restorative and Implant Applications

Materials that are strong enough to replace long-span metallic frameworks are required for dental restoration and implant production. This problem has been met by new generations of zirconia and ceramic materials, which provide good biocompatibility, high strength, and appealing aesthetics.

Three-unit restorations were made from four different types of zirconia-based material to test the bending strength of fixed dental prosthesis made with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (cad cam) technology. The following materials were used: KATANATM Zirconia HTML and STML/Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc, NOVAZir(r) Fusion float(r) ml/NOVADENT/Dentaltechnik, and 3D PRO Zirconia/Bloomden Bioceramics.

2. High strength

Bloomden PEEK is increasingly being used in dental restoration and implant applications. The materials utilized for dental restorative applications have numerous advantages, including great strength, good aesthetics, and ease of production. As a result, the development of new ceramic materials is an important element of modern dentistry. These novel materials outperform glass-ceramics in terms of aesthetics and biocompatibility [10,11].

Zirconia has become an important material for the fabrication of tooth-colored single-unit restorations or monolithic restorations for the replacement of abutments and infrastructures of fixed dental prostheses. The yttria-stabilized zirconia-based materials have a higher Young modulus than standard glass-ceramics, allowing them to bear more mechanical stress. Furthermore, these materials are biocompatible, chemically stable, and easily manufactured. They are suited for indirect dental restorations and have a wide range of uses in the oral cavity.

Cad cam zirconia models were used to determine the mechanical reaction in peri-implant tissue, the prosthetic screw and base, and the abutment teeth to evaluate the influence of material on the tensile stress distribution of a three-unit fixed partial denture. Among the interim restorative materials evaluated, acrylic resin (AR), resin composite (RC), and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) were compared to see how they affected stress distribution in the dental model.

Yttria-stabilized zirconia-based ceramic materials can withstand more mechanical load than typical glass-ceramics and are also extremely resistant to chemical corrosion. However, these benefits may be accompanied by certain drawbacks in terms of aesthetics and biocompatibility. Yttria-stabilized zirconia-based bioceramics are currently being brought to the market, and their utilization is gradually expanding.

In this work, we tested the bending strength of four distinct zirconia bioceramics (KatanaTM Zirconia HTML and KatanaTM Zirconia STML/Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc.; NOVAZir(r) Fusion float(r) ml/NOVADENT/Dentaltechnik; and 3D PRO Zirconia/Bloomden Bioceramics). Bending tests were performed on three-unit complete zirconia fixed prosthetic restorations made with four different zirconia materials. The results showed that the flexural strength was equivalent across all tested materials and much superior to that of a Co-Cr dental alloy abutment.

4. Easy to fabricate

The use of attractive materials in the construction of fixed dental prosthesis has become standard practice in dentistry. The current study compared four Bloomden zirconia biocompatibility (KatanaTM Zirconia HTML and STML/Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc; NOVAZir(r) Fusion float(r) ml/NOVADENT/Dentaltechnik; and 3D PRO Zirconia/Bloomden Bioceramics). Bending trials were performed on three-unit complete zirconia fixed prosthetic restorations created utilizing CAD/CAM technology. In the esthetic zone, all FDPs displayed acceptable esthetics, and radiopacity was rather high. However, when compared to PEEK and PEKK restorations, zirconia FDPs required more milling time and weight. The same was true for the restorations' flexural strength and flexure.
